Treatment providers who incorporate their faith as part of their professional and mothering identity, are confronted with some unique challenges when they struggle with anxiety, depression, and/or trauma. They can face additional struggles with their faith belief systems, especially if they perceive that their faith beliefs have failed to protect them from these experiences. On top of this, they can also bear the responsibility of not showing this vulnerability in fear that they are not exemplifying the faith pillars that others have expected them to be. Treatment providers who practice from their faith tradition are expected to have the tools to address their own struggles. Despite your faith and training, what if these tools have lost meaning in the wake of experiencing trauma? What if you are consumed with doubt and uncertainty? When aspects of our faith beliefs are shattered, we must engage in the hard work of rediscovering spiritual meaning in what has happened. I will come along side you in this process in finding safety again…in your mind, body, and your faith.
Just as no two people are alike, no two faith-based therapists are alike either. They will differ on a few different things:
Beyond this, some faith-based therapists aim to holistically integrate the mind, body and spirit for people of all faiths, while others focus on applying scripture to modern day problems instead of relying solely on psychology. Because I have a holistic approach, your treatment will address all of these.
