Dr. Teresa Barnes is a clinical psychotherapist who has worked in the field of mental health for over 30 years and has been in private practice for over 15 years. She is also a Certified Integrated Mental Health Professional, providing nutritional consultation and body centered interventions as part of her holistic treatment approach.
I am a licensed clinical social worker in Colorado and Illinois. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree from Northern Illinois University (DeKalb, IL), a Master of Social Work degree from Aurora University (Aurora, IL), and a PhD degree from The Institute of Clinical Social Work (Chicago, IL). In addition to my educational background, I have 30 years of professional experience, practicing in the following settings: schools, agencies, hospitals, and private practice. I have worked with individuals who struggled with personal and relational issues associated with undiagnosed trauma. I have also worked with women suffering from grief/traumatic reactions following pregnancy loss.
My current modality is integrating psychotherapy with experiential, nutritional, and body centered interventions. This means treatment that seeks to go beyond talk therapy by incorporating techniques that tap into regulating bodily responses to stress and trauma. Thus, my extensive research in nutrition and somatic therapies has afforded me the opportunity to collaborate and co-treat with nutritionists, massage therapists, chiropractors, and other wellness professionals to foster holistic options for treatment. Because spirituality is also part of a holistic approach, I can also support those who desire faith-based counseling to address spiritual issues associated with trauma and depression.
As a mother and a healer myself, I understand the intricate challenges we face when nurturing others while also seeking to heal. It's a journey filled with unique hurdles that only those of us in these dual roles truly comprehend. My passion lies in walking alongside fellow therapists and healers, particularly those of us who are mothers, guiding and supporting them as they seek the healing and balance they need for themselves. It's a path of mutual understanding and shared experiences, where we can offer each other the compassion and empathy we extend to those we care for.
Our sole purposes is to help mother healers rebuild what has been shattered in their lives as a result of traumatic experiences.
When trauma happens it can shatter our experience of safety in our bodies, minds, and relationships. At Restorative Place, we want to come along side you to help you regain a sense of safety in the relationship with yourself and the people you care for. This can be the catalyst to reshape not only your professional identity but also further deepen your work with your clients.
